In early June Save The River cleaned out one of the two existing Litta Traps and Installed the second ahead of the busy summer season. These traps containing cigarette butts, plastics, and trash play a crucial role in preventing this debris from entering the River we all love.

Sprawling Urban and Suburban areas especially those with higher concentrations of impermeable surfaces such as
roofs, roads, and parking lots can cause polluted rain water to enter the River. These surfaces prevent rainwater from naturally infiltrating the soil, eliminating the benefits of natural filtration in undeveloped landscapes. The water instead of filtering through the soil flows on top of hard surfaces collecting any pollutants and debris before entering a storm drain and being released into the River… Untreated.

This is where Litta Trap steps in, these traps inserted into the catch basin of stormwater drains allows stormwater to pass through into the drains freely while holding back any plastics, pollutants, and trash preventing these unnatural elements from entering our river. These traps are not only a practical solution but an effective one for ensuring the river we all love remains trash free.
Save The River remains committed to initiatives like these that directly reduce pollution and promote stewardship of our shared natural resources.
