Thanks to the generosity of the River Community, Save The River is now able to provide over 800 local students access to the St. Lawrence River aboard field trip boats.

Due to federal funding cuts state wide, STR and local schools lost financial assistance through the Connect Kids Grant to provide boat transportation to State Parks like Rock Island Light and the Minna Anthony Common Nature Center. STR’s On The Water Education Program works with local schools and teachers to put students directly on the St. Lawrence River. In a landslide of support after reaching out to the River community, STR raised over $24,000, surpassing the original goal of $12,000.
“I’m so proud to be part of a community which comes together to take care not only of the River, but also our local students,” said STR Executive Director Bridget Wright. “We’ve truly been blown away by the support.”
STR would like to extend a special thank you to River Partner Todd Atkinson for donating $12,000, Eileen George for contributing a $5,000 Matching Donation, the Alex Bay and Clayton branches of Community Bank N.A., Post 821 of the American Legion, and the dozens of community members who helped raise an additional $7,000 for local students.
