New York is NOT Disposable

You are here: Home / Plastics / New York is NOT Disposable

February 16, 2024 by STR_Admin

Beyond Plastics, among other organizations, will be meeting in Albany on Tuesday, February 27th to urge New York Legislators to pass the Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act and the Bigger Better Bottle Bill.

The Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act (A5322A/S4246) would require companies to reduce packaging by 50% in twelve years, ban several of the most toxic chemical that are currently used in packaging, make the remainder of their packaging materials reusable or recyclable, hold manufacturers accountable for packaging waste, and prohibit incineration and ‘chemical recycling’ from being counted as recycling.

The Bigger Better Bottle Bill (A6353/S237B) would expand New York’s Bottle Bill to include tea, wine, liquor, hard cider, and distilled spirit coolers to the container deposit law. The proposed legislation would also raise the handling fee to six cents per container and the depositi and redemption would increase from five cents to ten cents beginning April 1, 2026.
