Save The River announced that Bridget Wright has been appointed to serve as the Executive Director and Upper St. Lawrence Riverkeeper beginning January 1st. Currently serving as the organization’s Assistant Director, Bridget’s 14-year tenure at Save The River has included her contribution to various roles and campaigns, including growing Save The River’s membership and development goals, water quality programs, and advocacy initiatives. Her experience under different directorships has provided her with a comprehensive understanding of the organization’s history and operations, earning her the well-deserved nickname, “The Anchor.”
Bridget, a Chicago native, spent her summers on the River between Crow Island and Thousand Island Park. Even as a young child she observed and appreciated the difference between city life and River life, making the anticipation for summer to arrive practically “unbearable” in her mind. She spent those summers learning the complexity of the River’s ecosystems and how to navigate the water.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree, Bridget began a very successful career in business development and marketing in Chicago. She excelled in her work earning, “Best Employee” and “Best Boss” awards. But she still missed the River, resulting in a permanent move to Wellesley Island in 2006. Since accepting a position with Save The River in 2010, Bridget has been an integral part of Save The River’s operations by assisting with major challenges including the 2012 Capital Campaign, the fight for a natural water levels plan, and most recently the Save Blind Bay initiative.
When asked how she feels accepting this position Bridget said, “It is an incredibly challenging job, and I commend those that came before me. I plan to make a positive impact as I come from a long line of family members who have fought to protect and preserve the River and its community. It’s now my turn to do the same.”
