Elm Tree Island Site Overview – Septic Case Study

You are here: Home / What is Septic? / Elm Tree Island Site Overview – Septic Case Study

This site is located on Elm Tree Island in Chippewa Bay and is one of the most challenging sites imaginable.  Elm Tree island is a rock that emerges out of the water.  A small three bedroom home sits on the rock.  The island doesn’t lend itself kindly to a soil based septic system.  The previous septic system sat right at the river level and was washed away with the flood of 2017.  During the Summer of 2018 the owner installed a replacement septic system using a Clarus Fusion enhanced treatment unit.  The treatment tank that was installed inside a wood framed cribbing at grade.  Treated and disinfected wastewater is pumped for final dispersal to the other end of the island.  The force main piping that carries the wastewater was installed underneath the decking so it is concealed but accessible.  The final dispersal location is a cribbed up area where hauled in soil was placed.
