Clayton Climate Smart Composting Buckets Available at Save The River

You are here: Home / Latest News / Clayton Climate Smart Composting Buckets Available at Save The River

September 4, 2025 by STR_Admin

Save The River is excited to offer free composting buckets as part of a partnership with the Town of Clayton Climate Smart Communities Initiative. These buckets are available for pickup at our office located at 409 Riverside Drive, and are a simple way to start composting at home while helping out the environment.

Composting provides many benefits for both households and the ecosystem. By composting, you are keeping organic, compostable waste out of landfills where organics decompose without oxygen availability leading to the production of methane, a greenhouse gas bout 85 times more potent then carbon dioxide.

Finished compost can also be used to fertilize garden soil reducing the need for chemical fertilizers, improve soil structure, retain more moisture for healthy plants, and even assist in wetland restoration efforts.

The Town of Clayton supports this effort by accepting compost at the Transfer Station free of charge. This makes it easier than ever to turn food scraps into a valuable resource instead of contributing to landfills.

By Providing these composting buckets, Save The River and the Clayton Climate Smart Initiative hope to encourage the community to practice sustainable waste management. Picking up a bucket is a small step that can result in a big difference for the environment, the River, and our local ecosystems.

If your interested in composting at home, stop by our office at 409 Riverside Drive to pickup your free bucket and learn more about how small changes can make a lasting impact by reducing waste, promoting a more sustainable community, and protecting the St. Lawrence River.
