Haas the Great Blue Heron Story Time
A Distance Learning Guide for Educators and Guardians
Save The River is committed to providing quality educational programs and resources for formal and informal educators throughout our region. Save The River has developed Virtual Learning Guides and Resources for students, parents, and educators who are interested in learning more about the St. Lawrence River.
The children’s book Haas the Great Blue Heron: The Beginning of an Adventure was written by local author Juliane B. Flora, and has “did you know” facts written by Heather White. The beautifully illustrated book is a wonderful introduction to the great blue heron and its habitat.
In the video, Heather White introduces and reads the story about Haas. This is a heartwarming story about a father heron who anxiously awaits the arrival of his chick! Storytime concludes with a nest-building activity and prompts to learn more about these statuesque water birds.
Haas the Great Blue Heron can be integrated into classroom curriculum and addresses New York State Science and/or ELA Learning Standards, with a focus on PreK-2 grade levels.
