May 5, 2023 by STR_Admin

National Grid and #TeamSeas sponsored Trash Free River cleanups during Earth Day weekend. Volunteers from National Grid spent Friday, April 21st, cleaning the shorelines at Wilson’s Bay in Cape Vincent, where 165 pounds of trash including microplastics and lumber were removed. Save The River (STR) staff also led shoreline cleanups with local volunteers in Fishers Landing and South Bay on Wellesley Island, on April 22nd. Together, staff and volunteers were able to remove 765 pounds of trash including glass, metal, and polystyrene from the shoreline. This made a total of 830 lbs hauled from the shoreline over Earth Day weekend.

STR’s next Trash Free River shoreline cleanup will be hosted at the Minna Anthony Common Nature Center on Wellesley Island for ‘I Love My Parks Day’ on May 6th.
