Education Update Spring 2021

We are excited to share our newest education programs.

May 20, 2021 by STR_Admin

We are excited to share our newest programs, found under the “Education” tab on our menu.

If you’re eager to learn about freshwater mussels, Russell the Mussel is live! To dive deeper into the world of mollusks, check out the Freshwater Mussels Activity Booklet, for Grade 6+. This booklet was created as part of the NYS DEC Invasive Species grant, in partnership with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Environment Division and the New York State Museum.

We’ve added two new story time adventures for young readers, featuring local author Hope Irvin Marston’s My Little Book of Wood Ducks and My Little Book of Painted Turtles. All of these lesson plans can be integrated into classroom curriculum. Each is aligned to NYS Science standards and ELA Learning standards, has a rigorous vocabulary list, suggested activities (often completed outdoors), and additional resources for educators and families. Keep checking back, we’ll add My Little Book of Otters to story time soon.

This photo was recently submitted by Jessica Branche, a second grade teacher at Calcium Primary. Her grade two’s learned about river habitats using our online resources. Nice work, Jessica!

We’re looking forward to returning in person to classroom opportunities, docent offerings, and field trips. We appreciate your patience as we navigate to keep everyone safe.
