Clean Up Your Boathouse!

You are here: Home / Sustainability / Clean Up Your Boathouse!

June 30, 2020 by STR_Admin

Save The River is launching a new campaign for summer 2020. The goal is to encourage residents to do their part to keep our beautiful River clean.

Homeowners should take advantage of the warm weather and water temperatures this summer to clean out trash and debris that is on the river bottom and shoreline near their property.

“I encourage all River residents to help do our part to remove plastics and garbage from the River by cleaning the bottoms of our own boathouse, dock, or shoreline,” said John. “It could be a great teaching moment for our children and grandchildren. I think it would be wonderful if we all took a little time to clean the accumulated refuse off the bottom under our docking facilities. Together we could remove a lot of plastic and refuse from the River.”

In a previous cleanup, John recovered approximately 80 pounds of wood, carpet, old boat rags, plastic mats and containers, tape and sandpaper, and several recyclable cans and bottles.

If you are interested in doing your own boathouse or dock cleanup, Save The River can provide you with forms to record and track the type and amount of debris found during the cleanup so that the information can be reported to the Alliance for the Great Lakes. Please send a photo of your successfully completed individual cleanup at outreach@savetheriver.org so that we can share your photos and data results on our website and social media.

If you are interested in hosting a larger shoreline cleanup event in your community, you can register your event with Save the River by emailing Lindsey Russell at outreach@savetheriver.org.
